Currumbin Sanctuary on the Gold Coast
A Favourite for the Extraordinary Rainbow Lorikeets
It doesn’t get much more Aussie than Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary! The zoo began as a bird sanctuary many years ago and has since grown into one of the most popular tourist destinations for families and animal lovers on the Gold Coast. Famous for the unbelievable lorikeet bird feeding, the rainbow birds flock to the feeding area twice a day in the hundreds (maybe thousands!), so you’re guaranteed to have a feathered friend land on your feeding plate. Hot tip: This area is completely free to attend, the Sanctuary only asks for a coin donation in the name of preservation.
There are hundreds of native animals that call Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary home – they make up one of the largest collections of Australian native animals in the world! Cuddle up to a gentle mountain brushtail possum or take a stroll with friendly resident wombats. Kids will love learning about wombat poo (hint: it’s cube-shaped). There are educational and entertainment shows happening all day every day. The indigenous Australian cultural show is one not to miss, and the bird flight show is worth a visit.
